To all of my loyal readers, I apologize for being out of touch. I have a lot of new things going on and am in the middle of condensing my websites. I promise to have tons of new blogs and fun stuff in the next few weeks!! Here is a question from a bride in LA which I think is a concern for many of you.
Hi there - I live in Los Angeles and have had two makeup trials for my wedding in late August (when it will be hella hot). One makeup artist used Laura Mercier powder foundation and said she would use that for the day of; the other used liquid foundation ( I think it was MAC but I\'m not sure). Which do you recommend for the day, powder or liquid? I have normal to combination skin. Thanks!

Christy,
Thanks for contacting me! I do a ton of weddings in the hot and humid air of NYC. They key is to use a primer, oil-free foundation, then use a light powder to set and to use during the day to eliminate shine. The more matte a product the longer it will last. The same goes with lips. We all love a lip gloss, but it doesn’t stay nearly as long as a matte lipstick. I generally use lip pencil as a primer over the lip and then top with the gloss or creamy lip color.
I am not a fan of powder foundation – but if it works for your skin – than go for it! I use Laura Mercier primer and then her oil-free liquid foundation or Era Face by Classified Cosmetics spray on foundation which is also oil-free. I prefer liquid and then setting it with Laura Mercier’s translucent powder. You will need to continue powdering your t-zone throughout the day no matter which foundation you use.
In summary, I recommend the following:
1) use a primer and an oil-free foundation 2) chose the texture that you feel looks best on your skin 3) use a translucent powder to keep your shine at bay. If you use a heavier powder with pigment it will look cakey and could emphasis pores. 4) choose a makeup artist who listens to you and is dependable. You will be in her face right before you get dressed and you want someone who you trust and like.
Talk to you all soon!
