This weekend my lovely bride Lily was calm and relaxed as we did her makeup. Her mom sat beside us and enjoyed watching the process so much that she asked if I could do her makeup even though she had originally planned on doing her own. This is so common that I feel a need to address all of the MOB's and MOG's out there. I promise that I won't make you look like the makeup counter girl did in the 1980s. I will enhance your beauty not make you look like someone else - I promise! Makeup application can be so fun, fabulous, and relaxing.
I gladly fit Lily's mom in and we totally bonded during her makeup application. She was so beautifully dressed and I merely enhanced her makeup to match her overall striking good looks. I enjoy working with a bride's mom (and grandmom) and get a kick out of making them feel glamourous. Some woman don't realize how a little makeup in the right places can bring out the diva in them!! Let's face it brides, if momma is happy EVERYBODY is happy.
So in honor of all of the fabulous moms out there I want to show you a photo of my own beautiful mom. I was raised in a small town in Alaska where looking good and dressing well is not a priority, especially when the thermometer reaches -60. My mom flew on bush airplanes (the very small 3-5 seaters!) to even smaller indian/eskimo villages as a school counselor. She was a bit of a rare site as she always looked professionally dressed and styled in a world of sweatpants, flannel and snowboots. She told me that it was important to look professional because she wanted the kids she was working with to feel that they were important enough to warrant that effort. Thanks mom - for inspiring my love for clothing, hair and makeup - it isn't always just superficial. It can be a way to put your best self forward and show respect to others.
